ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Former Brighton Town Supervisor Sandra Frankel officially announced her candidacy in the race for Monroe County Executive Wednesday morning.

Two Democrats rumored to be potential candidates for the county's top job announced today that they will not be running afterall. State Assemblyman Harry Bronson and County Legislator Carrie Andrews threw their support behind Sandra Frankel, 74.

Frankel previously ran against incumbent Republican Maggie Brooks in the last county executive race four years ago. Brooks is not running again because she has reached her term limit. This time around, Democrats are on the offensive, attacking the current administration.

"This is a closed. scandal-ridden, insider-dealing, mismanaged local government where our bond rating is among the worst in New York State. We are tetering on the brink of insolvency. Our county government could not be in worse shape," said Monroe County Democratic Chairman Dave Garretson.

Current Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo has already announced her plans to run as the Republican candidate.

Monroe County Republican Chairman, Bill Reilich released a statement following the Frankel announcement saying:

"The local Democrats’ lost their "Anybody But Frankel" campaign with today’s announcement. Their party is stuck with Sandy Frankel when Democrat after Democrat chose not to run, acknowledging that Cheryl Dinolfo is the best choice to serve as our community’s next County Executive."
