One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point of their lives, according to data from the American Cancer Society, and more than 42,000 will lose their lives this year alone.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are talking about efforts to eradicate breast cancer through research being done right in upstate New York. Since 2001, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund has been a force in this fight.

JoDee Kenney welcomed in Beth Baldwin, executive director of The Baldwin Fund, which recently committed to a $50 million campaign to establish an Upstate Cancer Institute in Syracuse. With the help of brothers Alec, Stephen, Daniel and William, Beth Baldwin said the fund has already contributed millions of dollars toward research that isolated a gene known to cause breast cancer. In addition to hosting its annual gala on Nov. 1, The Baldwin Fund is taking to social media for its Crush the Can fundraising campaign.
