A North Greece family is without a home after a major fire Friday night.

Firefighters say multiple departments were called out a home on Lowden Point Road. When they arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the house.

Fire officials say it appears the fire started on the first floor, then spread thoughout the house. No one was home at the time.

Firefighters say scenes like these are tough, especially this time of year.

"Monroe County is the home of mutual aid and everybody working together," said Randy Jenson, Monroe County Fire Bureau. "Unfortunately, during this holiday season, that's the worst part about it is this family during the holiday season suffered damage to their home. As firefighters it hurts. We don't want to see anybody have any damage or anything done to their homes so we're going to do as much as we can to restore as much as possible."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping the family left homeless.
