ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester police are investigating a homicide on the city's southwest side.

Officials say they responded to a shooting on Seward Street at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, where they discovered a deceased male in a backyard.

Police have identified the victim as Roy Jones Jr., 43, of Rochester.

Anyone with information regarding this incident to urged to call 911.

"We want to ask anyone in the neighborhood if they saw anything, heard anything," said Jacqueline Shuman, RPD. "Due to the time that it came in, we wanted to know if anybody saw anything. Kids were going to school."

Police say there is no threat to the public.

"Please know this was an isolated incident," said Shuman. "It's okay to be in the neighborhood, its okay to be out here. It's safe and we're doing the best we can to solve this crime.

Genesee Street between Seward and Barton was closed for a few hours during the investigation, but has since reopened.
