IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Some family pets died in a fire that destroyed an Irondequoit home.
Investigators believe the fire on Sea View Avenue started in the porch area. Firefighters say the home is being knocked down because of the damage.
More than five fire companies helped put the flames out Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters say it's important to avoid clutter in you home so if a fire does happen, it doesn't spread as fast.
"There's a lot of materials in the front porch, car parts and such," said Dave DeRoller, Sea Breeze Fire District Chief. "Older homes down here in the Sea Breeze area haven't been updated in many, many years. It just burnt pretty quick. Clean houses is the best way to go. I think a lot of contents that accelerated the fire rapidly."
The Red Cross is helping two people who live in the home, as well as two people from the building next door, which the fire department says was just moments away from lighting on fire, but lost power anyway.
No one was injured.
