GREECE, N.Y. -- A van stolen from outside the Walmart on Dewey Avenue in Greece had a child inside, according to police, who said both the van and child were subsequently found. The child was not harmed.
Police say just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Dodge Journey was in the parking lot with the engine running and the child, who police initially said was disabled, was still inside. Police say the child was left alone in the car while the mother was inside the store.
After a large-scale search, the van was found more than an hour later, around noon, on Merlin Street, which is on Rochester's northwest side.
The Greece Police Department announced the arrest of 25-year-old Tyneidra Snow of Rochester in connection with the theft.
Snow is charged with second degree kidnapping, third degree grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Wednesday morning.
Police said the child's mother could also be charged for leaving a minor alone in the car.
