RIGA, N.Y. -- Scotts Miracle-Gro has officially opened the doors on its new manufacturing plant in Monroe County.

The lawn and garden care company opened it's new facility in the town of Riga on Thursday.

The plant will produce some of the Scotts and Miracle-Gro brands including mulches, topsoil and garden soil, potting mixes and fertilizers.

Operations on the 78-acre site include outdoor composting operations, bagging operations and office space.

“This plant’s designed better than most of our plants," said Don Dugger, Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. "It solves some of the operational challenges that we have. So it’s really good on the flow, It’s really good on consolidation, it’s all under one roof. Our structure, such as our office, dispatch, is consolidated in one spot. So it’s a really nice package.”

At least 20 new jobs are expected to be created locally, and another 77 retained  statewide.
