JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jordan Alexander appeared in Jamestown City Court Wednesday for what was supposed to be a preliminary hearing. Instead, the Chautauqua County D.A.'s Office reduced the reckless endangerment, unlawful imprisonment and menacing charges from felonies to misdemeanors.

"For Mr. Alexander, that's good. We are pleased with that outcome. It's clear from everything that was filed in this case, including all of the statements, that our client wasn't driving that car," said Jim Pelletter, Chautauqua County assistant public defender.

Defense attorneys say Alexander was a passenger the night he and a female driver lead Jamestown police on a high-speed chase, a chase where officers say Alexander held the driver at gunpoint. A judge also set bail at $10,000, which has yet to be posted. If it is, Alexander would not go free, as Kenmore Police would pick him up based on pending charges from an alleged Liberty Cab armed robbery caught on camera in March.

Liberty Cab President Bill Yuhnke says the incident has had a negative impact on the number of night drivers not showing up for work. He says out of 425 drivers, only 10 percent, or about 40 drivers, actually hit the road. Yuhnke says while he has been in contact with the cab driver involved in the incident, she has yet to return to work.

"We wish she would come back to work. I really worked with a skeleton of a crew; it was a very strong concern of mine. Even on high-powered Friday and Saturday nights, they weren't coming out," said Yuhnke.

Alexander is due back in Jamestown City Court late next month.
