JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The NTSB and FAA are investigating what caused a plane to crash near Jamestown.
Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone says the wreckage was located in an area between Route 380 and Route 60 in the town of Ellicott just before 9:30 a.m. Monday by an independent searcher not connected to the official search party.
Quattrone says all three people aboard the aircraft were killed. Officials confirmed the names of the deceased occupants are Alan Fuller, Valerie Holmes, and Linda Edwards. All three are from Northern Pennsylvania.
The plane took off from North Carolina and was headed to the Jamestown Airport and lost contact with air control in Buffalo just before 6 p.m. Sunday.
The sheriff says the pilot made no mayday call and no distress signals were set. The only thing they reported was turbulence.
Weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
An NTSB investigator will not travel to the scene, but the agency will work closely with FAA and will examine the plane once it has been sent to a recovery facility.
