DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Father Dennis Riter from the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Dunkirk has been placed on administrative leave after the Diocese of Buffalo received a complaint of abuse.
The Diocese released a statement Monday that an investigation is ongoing, and that the District Attorney's Office has been notified, but they say this does not imply any determination of truth or falsity of the complaint.
Just two weeks ago, Riter posted on the Parish's website commenting on the previous allegations made against other priests in the Diocese, saying: "These events have disheartened all of us. I feel shame that fellow priests abused their position of trust and caused untold suffering to their victims."
Bishop Richard Malone wrote a letter to the parishioners of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, asking for their prayers for Father Riter, the investigation and all victims of abuse.
It's just the latest development in the Diocese's sexual abuse scandal, in which the names of 42 priests accused of abusing a minor have been released.
