HAMBURG, N.Y. — Talk about a well-done effort.

After about a year of collecting more than 2,200 signatures and a series of discussions with the the town board, plans are underway to paint the water tower on Howard Road in Hamburg like a hamburger.

The city claims to be the birthplace the American staple, first concocted almost 150 years ago.

Chris Hannotte Luly is the woman behind the effort to repaint the town's empty water tower to resemble the sandwich.

After getting the green light from the town board to begin fundraising efforts for the $1 million project, she’s started making a board of her own.

She’s also chosen four designers to turn the water tower from an eyesore to an attraction, two of which are from Western New York.

Their ideas are due in the spring.

Hannotte Luly will present them to the public and the town board, which will have the final approval.
