JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- Jamestown's Department of Development fielded a high number of phone calls and emails Wednesday, one day after Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced 10 downtown development projects whuich will share $10 million.

The projects include a new brewery, renovating the former Ramada Inn, rail links to Buffalo and Niagara Falls, as well as renovating the KeyBank building for both businesses and new apartments.

Leaders say the challenge is to change the minds of those who view Jamestown as nothing more than a crime-ridden city, obsessed with Lucille Ball.

"We need to turn that image around," said Vince DeJoy, Jamestown Department of Development director. "All of this revitalization will increase the confidence of the people here, but people are taking note outside of Jamestown, they see a different Jamestown."

City leaders say the projects can realistically be finished within three years.
