BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Construction continues at Canalside, where the Explore and More Children's Museum will begin to take shape, but Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited Buffalo's waterfront to declare that New York State plans to commit $2 million toward redeveloping the south Aud site, where the Memorial Auditorium once stood.

There's no set plan for what will eventually occupy that block, but Tom Dee, president of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, says he'd like to see something like residential, office and retail space to help create a neighborhood feel, yet preserve open space.

Some visitors to Canalside told us Wednesday they are concerned about preserving green space in the area. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says the city's master plan calls for keeping such spots, but more mixed-use development near the waterfront was always part of the plan as well.

There was no immediate word on a deadline for the Request for Proposals, or RFP.
