CHERRY CREEK, N.Y. -- In a tiny VFW hall, they piled in. Tables and chairs full, dozens took up whatever space remained along the room's walls. All in attendance to see Tom Reed.

“We're always looking to get input, more information. Very confident where our positions are but as new info comes in we're always moving forward,” said Reed.

The Congressman zipped through the Southern Tier Saturday, holding town hall meetings at four different locations, including Cherry Creek. Almost immediately, he was met with a combination of cheers and boos.

Resident Tina Sherman said, “I do not feel he serves the people. Not only of this particular district or the people of the United States.”

A majority of the conversation focused on the potential repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Many expressed worry over what could happen to Medicaid.

Reed explained the plan is to freeze the expansion and give states more control. He added a transition period would ensure those on it would not lose healthcare or access to providers, but many weren't having it.

“I work with the working poor my entire life. I can tell you right now giving them a tax credit is going to mean nothing,” said Judi Lutz Woods of Fredonia. “Most of them get an earned income tax credit already. They will go without health insurance, and so will their children.”

Reed's willingness to hold the town hall-style gatherings contrasted what many feel is happening to the north in the 27th district.

Earlier this week, constituents of Congressman Chris Collins raised money for two electronic billboards requesting a similar meeting.

“To represent people, you have to listen to people. That's why we continue to do these and will be committed to these as we go forward,” said Reed.
