A local group continues to call for justice following the death of an Erie County Holding Center inmate.

India Cummings, 27, died of organ failure in February. Her family's attorney believes the center's staff let her go without treatment for injuries that caused her death. The Buffalo Anti-Racism Coalition held a meeting last night to update the community on its progress.

The group says an independent investigator has been assigned to the case and a lawsuit may be filed. The coalition's founder says the resurgence of Black Lives Matters has helped put the spotlight on injustice in jail.

"Things like a young black woman in distress, ending up in jail instead of a hospital not having money for bail, people hadn't really thought of that kind of issue in the way that they are now," said Lou DeJesus with the Buffalo Anti-Racism Coalition.
