BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Police Department is facing a lawsuit after the New York Civil Liberties Union says the department refused to provide information through a Freedom of Information Law request. The union says it was looking for policies and data on several police tactics including the use of force.

After 10 months, the NYCLU says the police department has shown "extraordinary resistance" and provided information in only about a quarter of the requested categories. The request is part of the Police Report Card Project aimed at increasing transparency and accountability of police departments.

A Buffalo police spokesperson said, "Buffalo police did respond to the request and did provide information. Due to pending litigation the department can't comment further at this time."
