BUFFALO, N.Y. -- There's been talk of possible trouble with the Solar City project in South Buffalo.

Late Thursday night, the Empire State Development Corporation released a statement concerning payments and potential layoffs at the construction site.

"Payments are being processed, and as a result we do not expect this to result in any layoffs. "

This was in reaction to a media report Thursday night.

A source at the site told Time Warner Cable News that some layoffs have happened at Riverbend and workers were told to expect more potential layoffs as early as Friday.

Paul Brown, the president of the Buffalo Building & Construction Trades Council, says he heard payments may be behind for some subcontracters at the worksite, but he did not know who is responsible or how much is affected. Several subcontractors said they're not aware of any layoffs or stoppage.

One subcontractor, American Rated Cable and Communications, says it's doing work on the site and is still waiting to be paid. But a spokeswoman says there are no concerns about not getting the money.

Empire State Development says the project remains on schedule and is still slated to be open in the third quarter of next year.
