ALBANY, N.Y. -- Alix's Law has once again passed the state senate. It's the fourth straight year senators have approved the proposed legislation.

The measure is named in memory of Alix Rice, the Amherst teen who was hit and killed by Doctor James Corasanti in 2011. Corasanti was convicted of misdemeanor DWI, but avoided more serious charges, claiming he didn't know he had hit anyone.

This law would eliminate that loop-hole, making it illegal for anyone to leave a scene while intoxicated.

The measure will now head to the State Assembly. Although it has never been brought to the floor in that chamber, there's renewed hope new assembly speaker Carl Heastie will make it happen. The bill is sponsored by local Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes.
