WATERLOO, N.Y. — The man accused of killing two people in Waterloo last week appeared in Seneca County Court on Friday, but asked and was granted a postponement so he could have more time to find a lawyer.

"I don`t know what his intentions are. If it is a stall tactic it`s not going to help him. We are prepared and ready to go to trial," said Seneca County District Attorney, Barry Porsch.

Emerson Tohafjian, 48, is facing a 19-count indictment for the double murder of his ex-girlfriend and another man. Four of those counts are for first degree murder.

According to the prosecutors, Tohafjian unlawfully entered a home on Virginia Street, despite three orders of protection previously filed against him.

According to the Seneca County District Attorney, Emerson Tohafjian fatally shot his ex girlfriend, 53-year-old Lori McConnell and 45-year-old Charlie Andrus.

"He's playing games with us. He's playing games with the justice system and he even had a crack at the justice system when he left. He said the justice system here is a joke," said Matthew VanDoren, McConnell's son.

He also is being accused of shooting another person, 50-year-old Karen Zdunko who was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.

All of the 19 counts Tohafjian is facing are felony charges. They include four counts of assault, three counts of burglary, intimidating a witness, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

Tohafjian is currently being held in the Seneca County Jail on no bail.

Tohafjian has a history of domestic violence. He was arrested twice in June for separate incidents and charged with rape and assault.
