Snow shower chances begin today in the mountains as a disturbance approaches. After that, expect snow showers to crank overnight tonight into tomorrow morning.

Some mountain snow showers could linger Friday, and then a final uptick in snow shower activity looks likely into early Saturday morning.

All totaled, the most favored areas above 4,000-5,000 feet in elevation could see over five to six inches of snow, especially in areas relatively close to the Tennessee border. Look for lighter snow totals below that elevation.

The cold will also be a weather story, with many areas dropping well down into the 20s for lows overnight tonight. Factoring in the wind, the highest elevations could see single-digit wind chill values for a period later tonight.

Gusty winds will persist, but while not extreme, power outages may occur due to weakened trees from Helene.
