WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest looks to beat a top 10 opponent for the first time since 1946.

  • Notre Dame will be the highest ranked non-conference opponent to play Wake since no. 13 Northwestern played them in 1996
  • The Fighting Irish last played in Winston-Salem in 2011 winning by a touchdown 24-17
  • The game is Saturday at 12 p.m.

Notre Dame will be the highest ranked non-conference opponent to make the trip to BB&T field since no. 13 Northwestern played there in 1996. The Fighting Irish last played in Winston-Salem in 2011 winning by a touchdown 24-17. This will mark the fifth time in the last eight years that the two have met.

Last seasons offensive explosion saw the Demon Deacons lose in South Bend 48-37. Not only will the Demon Deacons be looking to beat a top 10 team for the first time in over 70 years, they will be looking to beat Notre Dame for the first time ever. Wake is 0-4 all time against the Fighting Irish.

Speaking of offense, Wake comes into the matchup putting up big numbers. Dating back to last season, Wake has put over 500 yards of total offense in four games in a row, averaging 542 yards of total offense per game. The Demon Deacons average 36 points per game. Notre Dame allows less than 17 points per game. Their defense will be put to the test with the Demon Deacons high-powered offense.

Redshirt junior Kendall Hinton will be back from his three-game suspension. Listed as the back up quarterback, the Durham native could provide an explosive element to the offense. Head coach Dave Clawson is excited to have him back on the sidelines and was coy about what to expect from Hinton in his first game this season.

"Kendall can do a lot of different things, and we may use him a lot of different ways," said Clawson.

In 17 career games Hinton has thrown for 1,475 yards and rushed for over 705 yards. Clawson had high praise for the backup quarterback and he may throw a wrinkle in an already fun offense when they lineup at 12 p.m. Saturday to take on the Fighting Irish.
