The City of Winston-Salem has been experiencing what they’ve called a “major system outage" due to a cyber event that started the day after Christmas.
The city said a “cyber event that is causing a disruption to certain systems and operations on the city’s network,” in a message posted to their website Friday.
Major effects to the public include an interruption to some online bill payments. The city said it happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 26.
“Winston-Salem Forsyth County Utilities customers’ utilities/services will not be interrupted by this outage, and there will be no late fees or penalties charged to accounts that are unable to make timely payments as a result of this outage,” the city said.
Anyone can make in-person non-electronic payments at the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building on 101 E. First St. in Winston-Salem.
