On the morning of Dec. 23 in Greensboro, Horan died from gunshot wounds he suffered inside a Food Lion grocery store, Greensboro police reported.

He was responding to a call about a man armed with a gun. Tarell Isaac McMillian, 34, was charged with first-degree murder in Horan's killing.

"We thank Officer Horan for his service to law enforcement, the City of Greensboro, and his community," Greensboro police said Thursday night. "We are proud of him for wearing the badge (#541) and representing this department."
