The N.C. Ale Trail by Rail is a partnership with the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild and NCDOT that launched earlier this year.

The online map has designated stops in Charlotte, Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point, Greensboro, Burlington, Durham, Cary and Raleigh.

Sara Abernethy, co-owner of Wye Hill Kitchen and Brewing in Raleigh, says it is a great way to highlight the craft beer industry across the state.

"A lot of people may be familiar with the Raleigh beer trail but they may not be as familiar with the North Carolina Ale Trail, which is more of an effort to connect breweries across the state and bring attention to everybody between Raleigh and Charlotte," Abernethy said.

Anyone participating should be aware that open containers of alcohol will not be allowed on-board, according to officials.
