UNION CO., N.C. — A home exploded in south Charlotte area Sunday morning, injuring people inside, according to Union County officials.
The Union County Sheriff’s office said they received numerous of calls regarding the sound of an explosion just before 9 a.m.
When first responders got to the home on Steeple Chase Circle in Weddington, they said it had sustained “severe damage.”
A man was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in critical condition, while a woman was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Union County Public Communications Director Liz Cooper.
Union County Fire Marshall's Office said they will lead the investigation into what caused the blast, with an assist from Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
