It's election night. More than half of registered voters in North Carolina cast ballots early, either in person or by absentee, setting a record for the state. 

North Carolina voters cast ballots for president, governor and every member of the North Carolina General Assembly. The state's 14 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for election. There are hundreds of other local and statewide seats up for election Tuesday.


What You Need To Know

  •  Polls closed at 7:30 p.m. and results began filtering in soon after

  •  This is the first presidential election to require voter ID to cast a ballot

  •  Spectrum News 1 will be tracking the election returns across North Carolina and around the country

This is the first presidential election in North Carolina to require voters to bring identification with them to the polls to cast a ballot. If voters did not have ID, they could still cast a provisional ballot.
