Deputies in Cumberland County are searching for an inmate they say escaped custody Thursday night.

Daiqone Michael Hoffman, 30, escaped around 9:45 p.m. while at the Cape Fear Medical Center, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a release, where he was being evaluated before being processed into the jail.

Shortly after his escape, deputies say he was seen on Village Drive walking toward Ireland Drive, deputies said. Hoffman was wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and barefoot.

He was seen again around 3 a.m. deputies say at the Motel 6 on Bragg Blvd. He was wearing a white t-shirt, grey shorts and white sneakers at that time.

He is described as being a 6 foot tall, 200 pound Black male with black hair in dreads with white tips and brown. Deputies say he also has tattoos that include flames, a cross and praying hands on his left arm, “Mane” on his left forearm, “Missing you Moe” tattooed on his right arm, “Kush” on his right forearm, “State VS Hoffman” on his chest and a Playboy bunny on his stomach.

Hoffman was arrested on Wednesday for outstanding warrants involving a stolen vehicle, according to the release. He was also wanted for probation violation and kidnapping.

Deputies say not to approach Hoffman, but anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
