Fire crews have been working for hours to extinguish a large blaze at a scrap metal recycling facility on Community Drive in Rocky Mount.

The fire started at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mount Recyclers, according to Fire Chief Darvin Moore.

"It'll take a little time with the effort from our crews, so we're doing a good job of doing that. We pretty much have the fire contained, about 75% contained," Moore said.

The fire should be extinguished "in the next few hours," the chief said in a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday. He said he does not expect the fire to spread.

No one was injured in the fire, Moore said.

City officials shared a video Thursday morning showing large flames and smoke coming from the facility. The video showed firefighters on ladder trucks, directing water into the blaze as massive plumes of smoke rise from the fire.
