CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One person is dead after a drowning in a West Charlotte Lake.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Friday off Eagle Lake Drive south of Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

Police say the male victim and his friends were swimming in a pond at their residence before he went underwater.

He was found shortly after and a medic pronounced him dead at the scene.
