A low pressure system moving through North Carolina today will bring rain across the region Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures will remain cold as high pressure ridges down the Eastern Seaboard.

After a morning in the 30s to low 40s across the Piedmont, most should only see a 4 to 8 degree warm up Monday afternoon with a chilling northeasterly flow with highs in the low to mid 40s. This will be coupled with ample cloud cover and showers moving in from the south by mid-morning. Heavier rain will move in late in the afternoon and the evening hours then continue into Monday night. Rainfall totals into Tuesday morning will range from 1.5" to 2.5".

While the bulk of the heavier rain will be to the north of us Tuesday, lingering on and off showers will continue into the day along with cloudy skies as trailing cold front moves through. Behind that, cold high pressure will give us a brief lull in the activity Wednesday with cold conditions. Expect a blustery day of mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 40s.

An additional system will begin to move in from the south Wednesday night into Thursday. This system will bring the concern for heavy rain across the area along with freezing rain for the mountains late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. There is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the details of this mountain potential icing event, but things will become increasingly certain over the next couple of days. Stay tuned!
