CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- According to the city of Charlotte, scooter usage spiked in August to more than 140,000 riders and dropped to about 120,000 in September.

  • City council members met on Monday to create and launch a safety campaign
  • Some of the biggest issues are drinking and scootering and not yielding to pedestrians
  • The hope is to create the campaign so it can start at the end of this month

However, that flight drop may have been weather related, since that's when Hurricane Florence came through.

City council members met on Monday to create and launch a safety campaign so riders understand the rules of the road.

Some of the biggest issues are drinking and scootering and not yielding to pedestrians.

Council members said the safety campaign is a must-do, especially since scooters are considered vehicles.

The hope is to create the campaign so it can start at the end of this month and run through the month of November.

The council is planning to partner with Bird and Lime to create campaigns and make sure all riders know the rules of the road.
