CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)'s LYNX Blue Line light rail service is back open.

  • The LYNX Blue Line and Gold Line services are back open.
  • They were shut down for two weeks due to storm damage from Hurricane Michael.
  • Commuters had to use a bus to get through the middle section of the Blue Line.

This comes after nearly two weeks of shutdowns and delays.

Portions of the Blue Line and Gold Line streetcar service had been closed due to storm damage from Hurricane Michael which affected its power.

Downed tress damaged parts of the Blue Line and for over a week, commuters had to stop at Scaleybark and Sugar Creek stations to take a bus through the middle section of the Blue Line.

More than a mile of the light rail had to be repaired and tested before the Blue Line could compeltely reopen.

CATS ran tests on the light rail on Sunday morning to the areas that were affected and says thank you to its customers who have been patient as they made repairs.
