CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An acclaimed Chinese artist has unveiled two sculptures of the late Billy Graham as his last pieces he plans to make in his career.

  • Yuan Xikun has unveiled two new sculptures of Billy Graham.
  • Yuan plans to make these two pieces the last he produces in his career.
  • He says Graham "stands among the great cultural and spiritual leaders of our time."

The two sculptures by Yuan Xikun are a bust and a statue of Graham. They were debuted at a ceremony Friday alongside Graham's son Franklin.

The bust is entitled "Billy Graham as Messenger of Hope," and the statue is called “Billy Graham as Sower.”

Though the two never met, Yuan's renowned Jintai Art Museum in Beijing is close to the Chongwenmen Church, where Graham famously preached a sermon in 1988.

During the sermon, Graham encouraged the Chinese to add moral and spiritual renewals to China's ambitious modernization program.

"Billy Graham stands among the great cultural and spiritual leaders of our time, not just for who he was, but for the unique message he conveyed to the world," Yuan said. "My sculptures are meant not only to honor his influence as a preacher—they are a testament to the enduring legacy of his ministries that continue to transform lives on every continent."

Yuan also made the 48-inch bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln that was gifted to President Obama by the leader of China.

It has not been announced when and where the pieces will be on view for the public.
