CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A lot of security improvements for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools this year were announced at a briefing Wednesday.

  • Campuses are looking at camera, electronic lock, and motion detector expansion
  • Everyone will have to sign in using the digital Lobby Guard that keeps track of who's inside a building
  • Specific security plans are headed to the desks of county commissioners soon

Campuses are looking at camera, electronic lock, and motion detector expansion. And not just for visitors anymore, but everyone from teachers to board members will have to sign in using the digital Lobby Guard that keeps track of who's inside a building.

CMS Police Chief Lisa Mangum explained her staff is ever-vigilant, too.

"Every day we're always going to be evaluating our safety plans and at times revising what we need to find best practices," Mangum said.

Specific security plans are headed to the desks of county commissioners soon, so the district can secure $4.5 million of allocated funds to make the changes.
