UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- Police say a woman who was wanted on several felony warrants fled police and Highway Patrol when they tried to arrest her in the Charlotte area.

Charlotte police helicopters started following her around 4 p.m. Tuesday as she lead authorities on a high speed chase, reaching up to about 100 miles per hour.

Investigators say the Highway Patrol started following the driver after they noticed the car speeding and the driver refused to pull over.

She later crashed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 74 and Dickerson Boulevard in Monroe.

The Union County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as 30-year-old Amanda Sawyer. She had two children in the car at the time.

Sawyer was arrested and taken into custody after the crash.

She is now facing a list of charges including careless driving, driving while license revoked and child endangerment.

The children who were in the car are now with relatives.
