MORGANTON, N.C. -- Three suspects have been charged after gas and miscellaneous items were stolen from unlocked vehicles in the area of Hopewell Road in Burke County from June 27 to July 24.

  • Three people have been charged after cars were broken into in Burke County.
  • Break-ins happened from late June to late July.
  • Suspects are David Burhans, Michael Denton Jr. and Jessica Exline.

David Burhans, 39, Michael Denton Jr., 32, and Jessica Exline, 25, are all charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny. 

A deputy patrolling the Hopewell Road area on July 24 at approximately 4:00 a.m. noticed Exline sitting in a ca near Denton's Chapel Church Road. When the deputy approached the vehicle Exline claimed that she had run out of gas and was waiting on a friend. While the deputy was with Exline, Burhans and Denton approached the vehicle from opposite directions and were arrested on unknown and unrelated charges. 

After conducting an investigation in the area additional charges were filed against the three.

Burhans has been taken into custody and given a $15,000 bond. 

Denton and Exline have not yet been served.
