Scortched chairs, burnt tables, and ashy rubble is all that remains of the Westside Cafe.

“This was the main place to hang out. It’s a part of the community,” says customer Jake Suddreth. “It’s been here so long."

“Heartbreaking,” says customer Willford Oliver.  “Whenever it came on the breaking news last night it was heartbreaking.”

A depressing scene for patrons and employees, like Barbara Hunter to wake up to Tuesday after a fire ripped through the building monday night.

“It’s a part of your life. It’s a part of my life that’s gone,” says Hunter. “I was supposed to open this morning and it’s just not there anymore.”

Hunter has worked at the cafe for the last 7 years. But she grew up coming to the general store that used the building before the cafe.

“It’s not just a building, it’s memories it’s memories we’ve built over the years,” says Hunter.  “The friendships we’ve made.”

All day, customers and employees came to see the remains of the neighborhood spot, flowing tears at the site of the devastation.

"I’ve already cried and cried and cried out,” says customer Barbara Durham. “Because this is where my friends and everybody. You could trust them. It was just the bestest thing.”

And to the Enochville community, every damaged brick and board reminds them of much more.

“The love. The love from the employees, the love from the customers It was a family,” says Hunter.  “And it’s like that family is broken up now. It’s just so hard.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The building also housed a tattoo shop that was also destroyed.
