More than 60,000 people in Mecklenburg County who are living below the federal poverty level and do not qualify for insurance must sometimes choose between buying medicines and other necessities.

One long time volunteer says he's seen a great need in the community.

"If you've seen the amount of people that I've seen come through here, " said volunteer Bill Gerhart. "Things like that are expensive today and they can't afford to buy them."

The store will be open three days a week and is located at 4428 Taggart Creek Rd, Suite 101
