CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A major road in north Charlotte is shut down following a crash that left one person dead.

  • W.T. Harris Boulevard closed in both directions through rush hour
  • Multiple people transported
  • One person died at the scene

W.T. Harris Boulevard is closed in both directions between Sugar Creek and Old Statesville Road. It happened right at the entrance to the Davis Lake subdivision. The impact to traffic will likely spread throughout this area.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirm that one person died at the scene. Multiple other patients had to be rushed to the hospital.

It's not clear what led to the crash, but it involved what we confirmed was an All My Sons moving and storage box truck that's on its side and several cars. One of the vehicles ended up off the road.

“We saw the tractor trailer flipped over. There was about two or three cars by the tractor trailer. One flipped, one smashed in and there was a couple more people on the side of the road, stretched out, laid out on the ground,” Seth Whitney, a contractor working in the area said.

There's no word yet on the conditions of those people that were rushed to the hospital.
