CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is facing more than 40 additional charges of shoplifting.

Samuel Yaravitz was arrested last month on seven charges of shoplifting from a Harris Teeter.

He resigned shortly thereafter.

CMPD announced Tuesday that Yaravitz is now being charged in 42 additional shoplifting cases happening at five different Charlotte-area Harris Teeter stores.

Yarivitz had been an officer at the department since 1999.
