RALEIGH, N.C. -- Gov. Roy Cooper has issued a state of emergency for the western part of the state because of this week's severe weather.

He also gave an update on subtropical storm Alberto's impact.
As flooding in the mountain areas continue, the governor says the state of emergency will help the state coordinate storm response and prepare for any additional impacts.
He says he'll do whatever it takes to help in relief efforts and his primary concern right now are the stability of mountain slopes and several dams.
"People in North Carolina, need to continue to take these situations seriously because they can prove deadly," he said.
North Carolina Department of Transportation crews are working around the clock responding to road damage as well.
