CHARLOTTE -- The City of Charlotte is one of three finalists to host the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Members of the North Carolina Republican Party are in Miami for the RNC's spring meeting where Charlotte, Las Vegas and an unnamed city in Texas are in the top three.

Sources say seven cities submitted formal bids to host the convention.

Earlier, San Antonio decided not to submit a bid for the RNC saying the cost of hosting the event outweighs the potential economic impact.

Republican Party officials in North Carolina have said they will start private fundraising for the convention, which could cost as much as $70 million.
