JEFFERSON, N.C. -- Authorities say a driver struck a state trooper and didn't stop on a road in the North Carolina mountains.

  • Trooper hit and injured in Ashe County Friday afternoon
  • Trooper stopped to pick up debris from road
  • Investigators are searching for a red Nissan Frontier

The Highway Patrol said the trooper was treated for minor injuries after he was hit on a road in Ashe County south of Jefferson.

Authorities say they found security camera images of the pickup truck that hit the trooper from a nearby convenience store. It is a red Nissan Frontier extended cab with possible chrome bumpers and alloy wheels. 

The Highway Patrol said in a statement that the trooper was picking up debris from the road when he was struck around 2 p.m. Friday.
