YORK COUNTY, N.C. -- It was a gorgeous day Saturday, making it the perfect day for a cookout.

The York County community came together for a BBQ in honor of four officers shot in the line of duty.

In January 2018, three York County deputies and one police officer were shot during a search for a wanted man.

Three officers survived, but Detective Mike Doty passed away from his injuries.

Saturday's BBQ was to support the officers, their families, and the recovery efforts.

Sgt. Buddy Brown, one of the deputies shot during the man-hunt, says the support has been a huge help during his recovery.

"The amount of support that we've received has made us just, you know, it's really helped us with the healing process, makes you feel good," Sgt. Brown says. "It's really, I don't want to say it's a surprise, but it's a pleasant surprise as to how supportive the community has been of us, and continues to be through this whole ordeal. It has been fantastic, and made me feel great inside."

The money raised Saturday is going to the families of the injured officers as well as the Doty family.

There was also a "Do It for Doty" 5K run Saturday morning to honor Detective Doty.
