FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville's red light camera program has been putting the brakes on those who break the law.

The program has issued nearly 50,000 citations since it started over two years ago, but now, Fayetteville's seeing far fewer repeat offenders.

About 93 percent of violators don't receive a second ticket.

"The program is funded by the violator," said City Traffic Engineer, Lee Jernigan. "Of the $100 dollar fine that a violator pays, $35 dollars of it goes to the vendor to fund the program, and the remaining $65 dollars goes to the Cumberland County School System."

On average, there has been an estimated 60 percent decrease in violations issued, per camera, per day.
