TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- A 26-year old man was killed in Alexander County when he was coyote hunting.

The sheriff says Michael Seth Marsh was in the woods near his home with an electronic coyote call. Officials say a neighbor mistook the call for a real coyote and shot Marsh twice in the chest.

Marsh was rushed to the hospital where he later died. No charges have been filed yet, but the sheriff says it’s an important reminder to always follow hunting rules when in the woods.

"A normal person that's hearing this most of the time will go out to see what's going on. It all comes down to anybody that has a weapon is trained and knows whenever you point that gun and pull that trigger know where that bullet is going to," Sheriff Chris Bowman says.

Deputies were back out in the woods Tuesday looking for any additional evidence.

Marsh was a father, husband and a pastor at Russel Gap Baptist Church.
