CHARLOTTE -- Police have released the name of the man charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer at the Transit Center in Uptown Charlotte.

He is 49-year-old Reginald Alexander.

Police say Jeffery Outen was trying to arrest Alexander for loitering but Alexander attacked him, punching Outen in the head several times and knocking him unconscious.

Witnesses describe seeing punches thrown, saying they believed Outen was harassing Alexander.

Outen works for G4S, a security company.

Alexander is charged with assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer.
