CONCORD, NC - Friends, family and coworkers of Rebekah Hart-O'Sullivan said their goodbyes Friday at a crowded funeral service for the late Charlotte paramedic.

Police say Hart-O'Sullivan's husband, Patrick, shot and killed her last Thursday, January 4, during a domestic dispute.

He was captured two days later, weak from the frigid temperatures.

Friday, Hart-O'Sullivan's casket was escorted down 601 south to the Concord First Assembly Church in a procession full of emergency vehicles.

Coworkers spoke about her compassion and dedication to patient care, as well as her willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Her MEDIC family released the following statement about her death and what she meant to their organization:

Relief Operations Supervisor Rebekah Hart-O'Sullivan was born April 30, 1966 in New Castle, Penn. and served as a paramedic with Mecklenburg EMS Agency in Charlotte, N.C. since 2010. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

"Rebekah had a strong commitment to her co-workers and was dedicated to serving the people of Mecklenburg County,” said Joe Penner, executive director, Mecklenburg EMS Agency. “Her absence will leave an empty space in the hearts of our employees, her friends and family for many years to come.”

She leaves behind four children.

Memorials may be sent to Susan G. Komen Charlotte at 2316 Randolph Road.
