CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Christy Salters Martin, is fighting to make boxing relevant in Charlotte.

“Boxing as a business is just wide open,” she said.

Her strategy; being as tough on her boxers as she was her opponents.

Christy Salters Martin elevated women's boxing through her more than two decade career. Bringing relevance, and money, to a group of boxers who were mostly an afterthought.

“Yeah, my paycheck were nice,” Salters Martin said. “Lots of zeros."

Now, promoting a stable of boxers as owner of Pink Promotions, the former world champ is doing the same for North Carolina boxers. At all times she has three to four matchmakers looking for potential fights.

“The fights that have [traditionally] taken place here in Charlotte have been such poor quality,” Salters martin said.

The strategy has worked so far. Saturday is Pink Promotions fourth boxing show. Expected to be it's fourth sellout.

“I want to fill the seats each and every time of course,” Salters Martin said. “But not just that, I want to be able to take these fighters and step them up and let them step through the ranks and let them get to the place that I was."

“Pink Promotions" presents "Saturday Night Fights", November 18th, from Center Stage @ NODA.
