CONCORD -- A changing of the guard in concord; In a U.S. Army ceremony, Captain Christina Longo officially took command of the Charlotte Recruiting Company.

Her mission is simple: get more volunteers in boots, especially women.

"For me to be able to be the face of our Charlotte recruiting company as a woman is really exciting. Really, what I hope to do is get more women in our unit, and the Army as leaders,” she said.

The Department of Defense data shows that women make up about 15.8 percent of the U.S. Military.

As of June 2016, the Army had 52,315 women enlisted.

Capt. Longo will be an ambassador as well to the community. The U.S. Army as a whole has a mission to get the best qualified applicants, whether it's a man or woman.
